Which iPhones can write our rings and tags?

To write or encode our ring or tag, you need to have an iPhone 7 or newer and be running iOS13 or newer. While the iPhone 6 has NFC for payments, it cannot read or write our ring, even with an App.

While the iPhone XR, XS and 11 ,11 Pro ,11 Pro Max or newer can read our ring without any additional Apps, you do need to install an App with the iPhones 7, 8 and X. Read our tutorial on how to read our ring with an iPhone.

Which iPhone App for writing our rings and tags?

There’s a few apps already available and the number of apps is growing quickly. Born2Evolve recommend using Simply NFC app NFC Tagwriter app, or NFC TOOLS app. It’s free, reliable, regularly updated.

At the time of writing, Simply NFC app NXP’s Tagwriter app  and NFC TOOLS app is quite simple which is great for getting started. We’d also expect the app to develop quite quickly with new features being added regularly.
